Why Is There No Internet When My VPN Is Connected?

Fix common causes of losing internet access after connecting a VPN, including server, DNS, network, and app settings.

A VPN can appear connected while browsing or another app has no internet access. The cause may be the underlying network, an unavailable route, a captive portal, name resolution, access eligibility or a conflict with another networking feature. Work through one change at a time so you can identify what helped.

1. Check the connection without the VPN

Disconnect the VPN and try a normal website. If that also fails, focus on Wi-Fi or mobile data first. Confirm airplane mode is off, reconnect to the network and complete any legitimate Wi-Fi sign-in portal. A VPN cannot repair an internet connection that is already unavailable underneath it.

When possible, compare a trusted Wi-Fi connection with mobile data. Note whether the failure follows one network or occurs everywhere. Avoid entering account or payment information into an unexpected portal; use the network operator’s documented sign-in process.

2. Try another available location

Reconnect and wait until Mia VPN confirms the connection. If access fails again, choose another location actually shown as available in the app. A server or route can experience congestion or temporary problems even when the interface previously showed it as usable.

Do not repeatedly cycle through settings without noting the outcome. Check a simple website after each change, and record whether all destinations fail or only one service. If only one service fails, its own access rules or outage may be involved.

3. Read app and system messages

Check the error message, subscription/access state, VPN permission and any pending app update. Restart the app and device if the state appears stuck. Install updates through the official store rather than replacing the app with a third-party package.

Other VPN profiles, filtering apps or device-management settings can affect routing. On a managed device, ask the administrator before removing required profiles or changing security controls. Follow only the settings supported by your installed Mia VPN version; do not expect an undocumented protocol switch, kill switch or desktop control to exist.

4. Distinguish IP routing from name resolution

The public IP checker can show the address used by a browser request when it succeeds. A changed IP does not establish that DNS, IPv6 and every application are using the tunnel. The DNS checklist explains why resolver results need context.

If a browser reports a certificate problem instead of a general connection failure, follow the certificate-error guide. Do not disable certificate validation to make a test appear successful.

5. Contact support with useful details

Email [email protected] with your device model, operating-system version, Mia VPN version, approximate time of the problem and the steps already tried. Include the error wording and whether it happened on Wi-Fi, mobile data or both.

Do not send your password, card information, authentication tokens or browsing history. A support request should describe the failure without exposing private account content. Store-related purchase issues may also require using the official store’s account controls; read plans and access for the distinction.

Confirm recovery

After a change appears to help, verify both ordinary browsing and the application you originally needed. A successful IP check alone is not proof that every service is working. Keep the app current and record a repeatable problem rather than relying on unsupported “always connected” guarantees.
